Sunrise over the Tantalus Range on a Squamish water sports morning

Two hours of highway, a hundred quiet launches.

Squamish water sports are some of the most underrated outdoor experiences in BC. The town sits at the head of Howe Sound, surrounded by alpine lakes, a tidal estuary, a working river, and saltwater shoreline — all within fifteen minutes of downtown. You can swim, paddle, fish, and float, often on the same day.

The catch has always been logistics — getting the boat to the water. That’s what we solve. Squamish Canoe Rental is the local Squamish water sports rental company that brings canoes, paddleboards, and rafts directly to your launch. No roof rack, no parking puzzles, no figuring out tide tables alone.

Water Sports in Squamish: FAQ

What water sports can you do in Squamish?

Squamish water sports include canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), rafting, kayaking, kiteboarding, wakeboarding, and river paddling. The most popular flatwater options are the Squamish Estuary, Cat Lake, Alice Lake, Brohm Lake, and the Howe Sound shoreline.

Where can I rent water sports gear in Squamish?

We rent canoes, paddleboards, and rafts and deliver them to your launch spot anywhere in Squamish, Whistler, and Pemberton. No need for a roof rack — we handle the transport.

Best Squamish water sports for beginners?

Cat Lake and Alice Lake offer calm, warm water that’s perfect for first-timers. SUP on the Squamish Estuary in the morning is also beginner-friendly when the wind is down.

Best season for Squamish water sports?

Late May through mid-September is peak. Water warms up by late June; August has the warmest swimming. Shoulder season (May, September, October) is quieter and rentals are easier to book.

Do I need experience?

Not for calm lake paddling. For Squamish River canoeing or Howe Sound open-water trips, prior paddling experience is recommended. Call us first and we’ll match the trip to your skill level.

How far ahead should I book?

Same-day bookings work in shoulder season. July and August weekends should be booked at least a few days ahead — ideally a week. Multi-day expeditions and Whistler deliveries need a week minimum in peak season.

Do you offer kayaks?

We focus on canoes, paddleboards, and rafts. For sit-in or sit-on-top kayaks, ask — we can sometimes source them or point you to a kayak-specific operator in town.
